i run a straight cut dog engagement gearset in the drag car. and i love it. i have shifted it on the clutch before, as well. i have yet to test it out with the new sequential shifter setup i just got for it.
but it just falls into gear, right away.
mine is custom geared to my needs, and has ~26-2800 rpm drop for each gear change (only 4 speed) to keep me full on boost. i turn it to 9k+ rpm religiously, and it has seen 12,011 rpm on a misshift from a new driver
it does ~55mph in first gear alone. 1st gear is 2.5 seconds, 2nd is 1.5 sec, 3rd is 2.0 sec, and its in 4th gear by the 1.8th mile. 118mph at the 1/8th mile in 6.09 sec, and a to-date best of 60' 1.400. 0-60 is 2.3 sec.
right now trapping 153.xx mph's at around 8600 rpm.
again, its drag race only setup, and has dog engagement. which is sweet, no clutch is really actually pretty easy to use on the upshifts.
power is >800 AWHP, and >580 tq with ~40 psi 4 banger 20v.
and i use a stock driveline (propshaft) and stock locked rear diff (CQ) with welded Torsen center and Wavetrac front diff.
hope that helps in any little way for info..... but the dog gear set was one of my best investments so far.
if its anything like the one in the video it seems a lot of noise (that sounds like a old nova) and not a lot of motion. Bloody awful.
The rwd idea would be good but:
a) your car was the first estate a4 to get a il5 put into it so kinda a shame to move the engine
b) takes the car from being a sleeper if you can see the engine in the back.
The cossie box as stock I doubt will handle too much, they are strong boxes but think i've heard around 400-500 is max if launching etc all the time.
A supra box would be good, i've seen one fitted to a porsche before with good results. Leaves black lines down the road at 120+ but if your going to that level then why not swap in the diff to match, then things would just snowball and your into custom prop's and shafts etc. Tbh i'd stick with the s2 box welded up as its a solid box so should handle a lot of power and easy to replace if they go wrong.
moving the engine back, 8 inches is WITHOUT cutting the bulkhead ok people!
im not putting the ****in engine in the back lol
cossie T5 handles 500+bhp in STD form, TVR used them for years too.
shot peened/straight cut T5`s do 7/800bhp so that should do me
flat out 150 will be enough for what i need for the tracks i will be using, if not i will change the rear diff ratio
no suspension/steering components will be replaced or moved in the conversion, as a B5 chassis mounts the rack inside the bulkhead and the engine will not be breaching this.
making arrangments for the shell to go away tomorow and have a cage made up early next year
